How to home office

The lockdown situation will probably stay with us for a bit longer and many of us work from home. As we all know, this condition sometimes makes it difficult to motivate ourselves and to clearly separate our professional and private lives. That's why we've put together a few easy-to-implement tips that will help you make your home office routine more effective and enjoyable!

Leave the apartment

By going for a walk before you start as well as after you finish your workday, you suggest to your brain a clear demarcation between your work and your home. By moving around and getting some fresh air, you're also doing your body some good and giving it a chance to really wake up. So, grab your Souleway backpack and head out for a little walk around your neighborhood.

Create a morning routine

Develop your ideal routine that will help you get a relaxed and motivated to start to your workday. This routine may look different from person to person: For some, it may consist of making and then enjoying a cup of cappuccino before getting to the to-do list; for others, it may consist of a round of jogging before work. Does picking out a cool outfit in the morning motivate you, or does starting your day with 30 minutes of reading give you energy? Try it out next week and see what works best for you.

Design your workplace

Can't find your notes from yesterday in your home office mess? Constantly getting up and searching will only interrupt your workflow. Even if it's difficult in a home office with less space, having order and a structured work environment will help you focus and motivate yourself better. So, make sure to clean up your desk regularly. Candles or small plants not only decorate your workspace, but also create a nice working atmosphere.

Targeted breaks

A little time away from all your screens is good for you and also increases your productivity. So, don't forget to give yourself the breaks you deserve. To make sure you don't cut into your break time, there are even apps that log you out of your computer for a full 30 or 60 minutes. But if that's too extreme for you, it can also help to simply set a timer on your phone to keep track of how long you're taking off.

Resist distractions

Away from your targeted break times, it's obviously important to keep your attention on the job and not be constantly distracted by your phone or the ever-growing mountain of laundry. For concentrated work in intervals, the Pomodoro technique can help, for example. This time management method recommends working consistently on a specific task for 25 minutes and then taking a break for 5 minutes. These time intervals are continued until the lunch break or closing time. Works wonders!
