Summer is just around the corner and traveling abroad may not be possible yet? Often the most beautiful destinations are not so far away - Germany has some beautiful places for you with its varied landscape from the sea in the north to the mountains in the south. Here we present the most beautiful destinations for your summer vacation within Germany.
Along the rivers Saale and Unstrut in the middle of Germany is the Tuscany of the North. This region is characterized by history, culture and beautiful scenery. Surrounded by vineyards, the most northerly quality wine-growing region in Germany is a wonderful place to enjoy the peace and warm sunshine with a glass of wine from the region's 60 or so private vintners. In addition to the enchanting, terraced vineyards and 70 different grape varieties, you will find numerous old castles, fortresses and churches that are well worth a visit.
The Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula is located on the southern Baltic Sea coast in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. If you are looking for a vacation with a lot of peace and relaxation to unwind, this is the right place for you. Delicate, almost white sandy beaches, seemingly endless sea and small forests make up the diverse, beautiful natural landscape on Fischland-Darß-Zingst. The dike path is perfect for extensive walks, during which you can enjoy the fresh Baltic Sea air. There are also several tracks along the peninsula for inline skating and bicycle tours. If you like to eat fish, you should make a detour to the harbor on the Bodden: there you can get fresh smoked fish directly from the oven every day.
A trip to the south of Germany is also worthwhile: in the southeast of Bavaria is the Berchtesgadener Land county. Surrounded by picturesque alpine panorama, you can marvel at the beauty of nature during various hikes or bike tours. In the middle of the Berchtesgaden National Park is the Königssee, which is considered one of the cleanest lakes in Germany. The narrow mountain lake cannot be reached via the hiking trails due to the steep slopes surrounding it, but some boat trips are offered across the almost crystal clear, emerald, green lake. Definitely worth a trip!
The largest island in Germany, located in the north of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, offers relaxation in the midst of varied, picturesque nature. Here you will find fine sandy beaches and roaring Baltic Sea surf as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site: the Jasmund National Park. White chalk cliffs made of chalk up to 70 million years old stretch up to 118 meters high into the sky here. Through a dense beech forest, you can reach the tranquil Hertha Lake from the chalk cliffs. Rügen also has a lot to offer for sports enthusiasts: in addition to beautiful hiking and biking routes, you can practice water sports such as surfing, kiting or sailing here.
If you long for the big city life rather than rest and relaxation on vacation, we can recommend a city trip to our home city of Hamburg. Whether it's a boat trip along the harbor, a visit to the impressive Elbphilharmonie or a relaxing stroll through the beautiful streets of Hamburg with many individual boutiques - you can experience all this and much more here. You should also not miss the atmosphere of the Speicherstadt, Hamburg's most famous World Heritage Site: here you can feel the charm of old warehouses and have a wonderful view over the small canals, which are lined with brick buildings. And what should not be missing before your departure of course: a delicious Franzbrötchen, which you get here on every corner. In our opinion, the best ones are in Mutterland!
In the southeast of Brandenburg is the vacation region Spreewald. This region impresses with its quiet nature, in which you can relax wonderfully. If you need some action on vacation, there are also numerous excursions and activities you can do here. At the top of the list is a canoe trip through the fairytale Spreewald canal, lined with dense forests. There are also many great routes for cycling through nature here. A trip to the 17-hectare rose garden is not only worthwhile for romantics: here you can stroll among more than 800 species of roses and meanwhile savor the fresh-flowery scent that lingers over the fields.
Germany's only rocky national park is located in Saxon Switzerland. In the midst of the picturesque mountain landscape of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, many rare animal and plant species can be spotted on beautiful hiking trails. The Saxon Palatinate also has a lot to offer culturally: here you will find castles from the Middle Ages, ancient palaces and enchanting gardens that are well worth a visit.
In addition, various events such as theater, art exhibitions or festivals take place here on a regular basis. And if you want to relax a little in between, the Toskana Therme is not far away - here you can float almost weightlessly in the salt water with relaxing sounds and light shows.
